NBC, MSNBC AND NEWS SERVICES April 4 — In the face of intense criticism that his administration has ignored rising bloodshed in the Mideast, President Bush will announce Thursday that he is sending U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell to the region in an attempt negotiate an end to months of violence that have killed over 1,500 Palestinians and Israelis, NBC News has learned. The announcement, expected later Thursday, comes as Israeli forces and Palestinian militants engaged in another day of pitched battles during the Israeli military’s occupation of more West Bank towns. msnbc.com
