two objectives in Afghany: kill AlQ, build oil pipeline

in 1998 or so the pipeline was planned, but died

the West has a very big vested interest in getting Caspian oil & gas to the marketplace

I read that Turkmenistan is #2 in natural gas reserves worldwide
and Caspian Sea has over 200 billion barrels of oil

completing a pipeline is in the interest of all those who drive cars, light and heat homes, and work in an office
did I forget air conditioning?

"Who said anything about that. Not me."

I doubt one can happen without the other. Our service men are in harms way to defend our freedom & to fight terrorism. Oil is going to be a major consideration because we are going to be rooting out terrorists in Muslim countries & Muslim countries are the worlds largest source of oil output & reserves. Bush must consider whatever reasonable options to reduce our dependence on foreign oil or we are destined to become a backwater third world nation where terrorists will have the upper hand.

IMHO, your POV is riddled with unfounded, speculative, liberal conspiracies.
