Your excise tax to fund research is an excellent idea.. Too bad our president has basically gutted any research for oil alternatives....very shortsighted.

I lied to polvie; I've been up since 1800 yesterday yer time, and the coffee is still hanging on; sorry for the rambling. I may understand how we can get to some similar future vision by opposite politicoeonomic means ,agreeing only on the tax, which TRUEGWB Conservatives wouldn't publicize or support....excise tax, CO2 tax, poll tax, whatever. (Wouldn't hurt long term solutions a bit if our gas cost the same as Europe's). I think ; "tax and spend (liberal,) appropriately, (& we're pretty close on what appropriate is, I think), and raise mileage and emissions by regs". You think "TAX & SPEND!!!!!! (liberal?) , but then the marketplace will dictate the rest,eg everybody is going to start buying foreign cars which get 6000 more mpG and Detroit will go belly up again like in the 60's, and gas will be conserved and air cleaner without laws and we all live happily ever after". Do you know if the new Hyundai plant in Ala is going to be making hybrids? I own a penny called ENVA, supposed to be making drive trains for H and for Ford Thimk. Good night for real.
