Dell Operating Chief Says Tech Recovery To Take Six Quarters

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Dell Computer Corp. (DELL) President and Chief Operating Officer Kevin Rollins said Thursday that a technology recovery will begin in the second half of the year, but that it will take six quarters for a full turnaround.

It won't be a "rapid" recovery, Rollins said at a press conference following the company's spring analysts' meeting here.

Rollins also said the company doesn't expect to make further reductions to its work force.

As for the effects of the uncertainty surrounding the Hewlett-Packard Co . ( HWP) and Compaq Computer (NYSE: CPQ - news) Corp. (CPQ) merger, Rollins reiterated that Dell has benefitted by winning accounts. In the last year, Dell has won 284 corporate customers, but he didn't specify how many of those were due to uncertainty surrounding the merger.
