*OT*

I doubt that we will use a conventional approach to do away with Saddam. Perhaps that's what the "bluff" is to make them think that it will be a re-make of 1991. The CIA is authorized to do whatever it wants to do and that's what I'm betting on.

O/T-I think that the blueprint for a successful removal of Hussein was demonstrated in Afghanistan. I do not think that the vast majority of the Iraqi population or even the Iraqi military in general would vigorously fight for Hussein. If the US provides enough bombing and can assist only a "decent" sized yet vigilant faction of opposition ( I believe that the Notrthern Alliance was initially supported by less than 20% of the population), I think he and his core group can be removed.

I would think that the greatest military power in history is flexible enough so as not to be restricted by difficuly with just one of its field weapons.

US will not enter Iraq, IMO. The entire Arab world would implode. The moderate Arab states are having a heck of a time with dissent, and the monarchies would be in jeopardy of being toppled if the US goes into Iraq with their approval, IMO. Imagine some of the gulf states with radical governments. It could happen if the US goes in with moderate Arab backing.

The Iraqi's and Saudi's kissing last week on TV was a message to the US, but I wonder if anyone caught it.

If the US goes in alone, I and everyone else here will have to watch their backs, both here and abroad. We'll all be targets for Arab rage.
