To be honest, I hate coming to the conclusion that the destruction of Isarael is the ultimate goal of Arafat. It makes the current situation nearly hopeless.

Yup.

The only hope is that Arafat's bloody rule over his own people has resulted in thin support for his policies. Once he is replaced, it is possible that more moderate leaders may emerge. This is unlikely given the history of the conflict and the indoctrination of Palestinian youth.

I fully understand that this is pie-in-the-sky thinking, but I'm looking for hope somewhere and finding few reasons for optimism.

Can anyone point me to disputing viewpoints about Camp David that they think are on target? I read the one from Robert Malley (aide to Clinton) and it wasnt very persausive.

I have no idea why CD II failed. Like you, I'm looking for a good analysis. Perhaps tekboy can help, if he is lurking. Here is, I think, the official Palestinian view of the reasons why it failed. Written by a member of the PLO executive council.

Tekboy's your guy. Why not post a public message addressed to him so the rest of us can see his recommendations. I have the impression he does not read the thread in its entirety, so you need to find some way to get his attention.
