Current Street consensus for fiscal 2003 is $1.17.
Since we remain near Street low for fiscal 2003 at $1.07, we are not changing our earnings-per-share forecast at this
time.

That's a good reason <ggg>

Audiovox announced their 1st Q results today.

biz.yahoo.com

They blamed much of their shortfall on delayed carrier approvals for 1x handsets. They attribute this delay to software problems on the MSM5100 chipset.

FWIW....I dont have much faith in Audiovox management. They have stated things in the past that have turned out to be untrue. The facts are likely to be correct....but their spin is another story entirely.

Some notes from the Audivox CC....

- They needed a software corrections for issues related to the MSM5100. They believe that this was a Qualcomm issue and that it was industry-wide. Qualcomm has been issuing software patches on the MSM5100.

- They are now in the final stages of carrier approval and expect it "very soon". Most likely by the end of April.

- The US carriers are mostly deciding to skip the MSM5105 due to it's lack of GPS. They dont want to have to upgrade the customer twice.

- They have taken delivery of something like 750,000 MSM5100 based handsets. They are confident that carrier approval will be soon and that all the handsets will need is a flash upgrade.

- A clamshell 1x color handset with GPS and polyphonic ringtones to be available by July. It will be high-end handset selling for between $299-$399.

- The Thera (Pocket PC with 1x) will be available from Verizon on April 15th or so. They will have exclusive use until July 1st when PCS will begin sales. Expect sales of around 100,000 by year end....ASP of $799.

- $30 delta between 9150 and 9155. The 9150 has the MSM5105 (no GPS) while the 9155 has the 5100.

- Lowest priced IS-95 handset....Motorola for $110-$125. Lowest 1x is for $150-$175. I missed what VOXX's overall ASP was....I think it trended down.

- They think that carriers drew down IS-95 inventories while waiting for 1x handsets.
