My area is well above the national average in minorities, and also has a large black middle class, especially in the next county, Prince George's, where I grew up. When we moved from downtown Annapolis to this house, many years ago, it was a strictly financial consideration. To have stayed downtown and gotten the same amount of space would have cost about 4 times as much. As it is, we are 10 or 15 minutes from downtown Annapolis, by car.

Moenmac,

In general the west, and the west coast in particular have relatively small african american populations. So I don't think its just a Seattle thing. Of course, there were plenty of hispanics, indians and asians to kick around...or chase out of town (the Tacoma Method).
