Alice, Re: "If you check, say, Gateway, they offer
only 2.0A, no 2.2 whatsoever, and next is the new 2.4
NW shrink (but I didn't check the delivery time).
Therefore, we must conclude that the 2.2 was another
paper launch from mighty Intel."

So Gateway has the 2.4GHz sku, but since they do not have a 2.2GHz sku, you conclude that it was a paper launch? Ever consider looking at other sources, like Compaq, Dell, or MicronPC? They all offer both 2.2Ghz and 2.4GHz skus.

Your Intel bashing is getting increasingly more desperate, Alice.

Ali, <Therefore, we must conclude that the 2.2 was another paper launch from mighty Intel.>

That all depends on what your definition of "we" is. ;-)

Ali
here is a bit of interesting information that I found on on hardware.ru:
fcenter.ru

The headline reads that Intel will provide complete technical support for desktop p4 use in notebooks.
Artical reads that the demand for p4m is small and manufacturers are using p4 instead. In past intel would either ignore the fact or fight it but this time intel announce that they would provide complete tech support for desktop chips in laptops.

I wonder why? Are there some problems with p4m out there?
Either way this decision would not add much to revenue

Regards
-Albert

2.2GHz P4s are also missing here:

dell.com

The 2.2GHz story is weird. If Intel can bin the 2.4GHz P4s in volume, then there may be an "issue" with the 2.2GHz part, which went undiscovered by the general public, and Intel quietly stopped a whole bunch of them from reaching the market.

2.4GHz volumes will give me some idea of what is going on.
