Re: U.S. and Israel have regressed below the level of South Africa 40 years ago in their treatment of the Palestinians.

Hey, as John Lee Hooker put it, Chill Out! Things Gonna Change.... I wouldn't equate the US with Israel. Prez GW Bush is doing his best to "promote the US's values" abroad but, as far as Israel is concerned, he just can't go head-on against Israel's policies --however barbarous they have become. For one, he can't reverse 40 years of rabidly pro-Israel policy over night. Second, he must take into account the US's domestic balance: for decades, US public opinion has been brainwashed with Israeli fairy tales mixing the Holocaust with Biblical nonsense about the chosen people, with "Israel, the only democracy in the ME", with... you name it.

Yet, Prez Bush tried to set the US diplomacy on a more balanced course of action as regards the ME --and what did he get in return?? A Judeofascist conspiracy that led to the 911 outrage, his own life at stake, and a cold-blooded blackmail by Israel that killed five innocent Americans with anthrax letters!! Talk about a dare for the President of the US.
