I see no mention of 67 borders-take-it-or-leave-it, do you? He is praising it as a starting point for negotiations, which is not what it was meant as.

Oh, the mention of the 67 borders was there alright but no--I watched the speech--take it or leave it language about them.

I frankly don't think this speech means anything. Just a way to respond to the political heat they've been getting. And to justify another zig to the zag. When you have no policy and when you've done precious little to keep this day from arriving save talking and wagging a finger, then you've given up a great deal of leverage.

As Novak argues, Bush is lost. Best keep him to a script. So policy is, unfortunately, going to be ying and yanging between State and the Pentagon.
