Tim, Typically, for a targeted group like this Compaq would approach AMD for some one time target price for strategic reasons. MSFT may also ba approached for a special one time OS price to help ease Apple out of that school system. So AMD would give a little, as would compaq, and maybe their friends(OS) would help but the rest of the fab chain would not bother.
The OS screen might say something oriented towards that school system if there was inded a special MSFT deal?? Has anyone seen one. If the distribution is mediated through local shops and rebate cards it is not likely that any OS deal was made, esp in light of recent DOJ actions against MSFT.
