A quick little post from a moderate... I guess this'll get deleted by the Moderator.. though, shouldn't he be called the Conservator here? ;) Hi sandintoes, For a strongly developed argument in favor of cultural pluralism (and against the melting pot ideal that you espouse), check out Culture and Democracy in the United States by Horace M. Kallen. It was originally published in 1924, so it shows a bit of its age, but arguments and truth don't have a shelf life, else we'd not have the great reverence for the founding fathers that we do. I'm quite certain that you'll end up disagreeing with most, if not all, of the points and arguments raised by Kallen (though I happen to agree with the man), but it is a fun read and interpreting and disagreeing with the author should give you some intellectual ammo against people like Kallen or myself. All in the name of informed debate. ;) Take care, -Tom
