Dennis R. No faulty chips. There was a problem with the sofware that affcted trimode phones in the US. Clearly the Koreans have been successfully running 1X phones on their 1XRTT network for many months. I listened to Ahe Audiovox Q1 call and noted several important points.
1) Verizon still plans to stick to their 4/15 launch date for their 1X
PDA's
2) Audiowox plans to reinstall revised software based on Verizon approving the phones and to ship masses of tri-mode phones this month.
3) Audiovox sees Sprint as launching 1X service promptly in April or May as soon as these tri-mode phones are approved. And all partys are motivated to work 24 hours/day to complete the approvals
4) Phone prices jump up to apx $180 with 1X and $700 with PDA phones. Further this is without color screens which will keep prices up when they hit this summer. MORE ROYALTIES!!
5) Sprint and Verizon will jump directly to GPS phones thus accelerating the evolution to BREW/JAVA lpcation based apps.

Also, KDDI is moving immediately to installung some 1XEVDO from Samsung. Too bad for
MOT who probably screwed up the 1XEVETT time line. However, for QCOM, the news on KDDI is super.

All is WELL!!
