Actually, Qlogic did quite well at the interop lab. They handed out 2Gbit HBAs like popcorn to anybody that needed or wanted them. All they asked is if we put a little placard next to the device showing it was using a Qlogic card. They really didn't seem to concerned about getting them back either. Very generous, especially since they go for around $750 to $1000 retail each.

But, it is the right audience to give them out. Kind of like apple giving away PCs at high discounts to schools. Theory is you suck them in at an early age, and you have customers for life. It holds pretty true with HBAs also.

I don't know if JNI or Emulex did that. They might have, but Qlogic actually made it known to everybody to just come on down and get whatever you need.
