We lost more than one frigate to Argentine missiles. But it was because the NATO systems on the ships identified the transponder on the Exocets as NATO missiles and thus ignored them.

The defenses against a missile attack which a US aircraft carrier can deploy are significant. They start with the Aegis class cruisers which provide an unbelievable defensive shield.

I don't think an Exocet would have touched an American carrier protected by an Aegis cruiser.
