But others people's cherished ideals and beliefs, being quite different than yours, will lead them to be every bit as invested in other causes as people were in the cause for equal rights. It seems to be the nature of humans that they get fired up about things, and that they get fired up about different things. Tradition can only be seen looking backwards- it seems to me we are always in a struggle of some kind, for something, we only perceive idyls when we look backwards- they weren't really there. There are always people struggling against something, and society always seems to be changing in some fundamental way. If there is no change, you get stagnation. JMO
