did you see the tonight show episode when gobel was a guest along with dean martin? gobel was in the "shotgun" seat next to carson, and martin was to gobel's right, on the sofa. martin was smoking and both he and gobel had drinks in their hands (kinda' date stamps the whole thing right there, doesn't it?). gobel is jabbering away to carson about one thing or another and soon dean martin just leans over (out of gobel's peripheral vision) and taps his cigarette ashes into gobel's drink. the audience laughs, martin quickly retracts his arm so as not to tip off gobel, and gobel has no idea. another minute passes, gobel still jabbering at carson, martin leans in and flicks a few more ashes in gobel's drink. audience is really laughing hard now, and gobel has no idea at what. he thinks he must be especially funny this evening, so he seems to really dig into his story with added gusto, never ever having any clue what dean martin had been doing. :) mark
