It's not taboo everywhere. It's legal in some states. I think it's legal where I'm from too (U.K.), but I never liked any of my cousins enough to pursue it :-)

As I reflect on it, that may be a good example of the extent to which we honor tradition. If there is no good reason for this taboo, do we continue to honor it because of tradition or do we dispense with it. And what do we do about our non-Western-tradition immigrants who do not share this taboo?
