Since Freeh was a Clinton appointee, ....
An apparent mistake, and when Clinton began to call him on his mistakes he took refuge in impending conspiracy to form an impeachment.

But what Freeh lacked in managerial genius, he more than made up for in political and public-relations acumen. In a breathtaking display of political agility, Freeh skated over the cracking ice beneath him, away from the Clinton administration and into the warm and welcoming arms of congressional Republicans.

Once allied with Gingrich and the rest of the vast rightwing conspiracy Freeh had the protection and firepower of the Scaife & Murdoch trash machines at his disposal.

Woolsey was a Clinton appointee too and Clinton canned him after he realized his mistake. He should have canned Freeh also when he started to become a Starr hack but per usual you repubs would have gone ballistic if he had done so. The repubs loved the guy and it is now very clear that he was a disaster as director. Too bad he did not spend time as Director working on FBI problems. What a loser.

Btw, re the middle east and the current occupant of the White House; Al Hunt had it right on yesterday when in the WSJ he pointed out that the repubs would have gone nuts if Clinton and his administration had screwed up that situation as badly as the current clowns have.

What you and most naive right-wingers fail to accept is the fact that the intel groups in this country are led exclusively by incompetents and controlled spooks who work contrary to the interests of the American people.

The massively-budgeted and unconstitutional secret police in this country need to be completely and utterly dismantled, the criminal leadership exposed, tried and those convicted sent to prison.

The real intelligence requirements of this country can be rebuilt from the ground up with people of integrity.

Of which there are none in the leadership of the 12 intelligence agencies now pulling the levers in Washington.
