Raytheon: 5-Year Contract Could Be Worth $3 Billion To $4 Billion

SALT LAKE CITY -(Dow Jones)- Raytheon Co. (NYSE: RTN.B - news) (RTN) and Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC - news) Corp. ( NOC) will jointly bid for the Transportation Security Administration's explosive detection system/explosive trace detection contract.

During a media briefing held in Salt Lake City , a Raytheon representative said the five-year contract, if awarded, could be worth between $3 billion and $4 billion. The initial contract, if awarded, would be valued under $2 billion, the representative said.

Raytheon would be the prime contractor with Northrop as the subcontractor, and the companies would split the revenue recognized from the contract. The split ratio wasn't disclosed, however.

Raytheon expects the winner to be announced May 1 .

In a press release Friday, Raytheon said the proposals are due Tuesday.
