wbmw,

And now compare that to the AMD parts. A 1200 MHz Athlon Thunderbird running at its rated 1200 MHz speed using two fans (one on the processor and one on the front of the case) runs at 50C/122F.

Yes, but the Athlon is smaller, so you have less silicon to concern yourself about where any hot spots might be. DUH. Actually, long term reliability is a function of junction temp., so P4 running cooler is a plus in that regard.

Tony

Intel actually has the coolest running CPU, yet the 'Droids always claim that Intel's CPU will run the most hot! I can tell you from my own experience that my 1.8AGHz Northwood running at 2.2GHz runs at only 38c degrees when idle.

Mine stays at 32-34 degs running SETI 100% of the time.

wbmw, the guy is retarded, I have installed Socket A heatsinks many dozens of time and i have never damaged the cpu. You have to be careful doing it that's all.

C

p.s. He is right about Athlons running hot.
Did you pm me your email address? I never got it.
