Lots of ideas in Western Civilization never would have been, but for the East. Gun powder, a defining feature of Western Civilization, came from the East. Some sources even suggest Jesus got his ideas from the East. I don't see the need to say where things came from though- except out of curiosity and the fun of tracing connections- a la James Burke. I think we can say our society has a lot of good ideas, lets find out what those are, and keep them- regardless of where they came from. Other societies have good ideas too- lets steal those. And all societies (ours included) carry around some bad baggage- let's dump that off.

Actually, the analogy is cautioning against throwing out the protocols, techniques, and amassed data and theory of science, just because science is progressive, and subject to refinement and revision.

Cut the crap. Transistors were really new in 1948. Automobiles were really new in 1890. Radios were really new in 1919. Television was really new in 1939. They were all adopted with little problem when the price fell and the technology improved.

The issue with stem cells is not change and you know it.
