Another year or two and it might have been too late for the US to have done much in WWII. Only the bombing which slowed and reversed the Nazi technology march saved the world. Years ago I read where the Bismark had two sister ships within months of completion. The plan was to send all 3 out together. Hitler's ego got in the way and the Bismark went out alone and when she went down he stopped work on the other two. If all three had gone out in a pack with support ships the Nazis would have owned the Atlantic.
