One can take one's place on the spectrum according to conscience. I am explaining my position. What is my brand of conservatism? How does it differ from the brand affirmed by the Christian Democratic Parties of Germany and Italy, or the Gaullist parties, or the Tories? In respect of allegiance to the West? That, after all, is what I was discussing. Very few conservatives look back to a Golden Age. Some of them look to points in history where they think a wrong path was taken, which is rather different. Where that sense of mistake is mainly placed differs with various factions. Apart from that, most conservatives just want to be left alone by the government, and not feel that their customs and beliefs are under attack........
