And what do you mean by fundamentalism? You are forcing me into stereotypes, and I want it on record that I was coerced! When you get to the fundamentalism of Western Culture I think you are talking about race. For the record I am of the purest of Nordic Arian ancestry (LOL- Vikings had eclectic social habits ). I was taught my whole life that the world would have probably died out by now except that Viking warriers colonized Russia and Central Asia leading to Rurik and Vladamir establishing the dynasty of Czars. In the mean time the Vikings took over France leading to the region known as Normandy. Another group conquered Ireland and Scotland and pushed through Germany. The Normans in France conquered the remaining Celts in England. The English went to the New World, etc etc. This was the stuff of legend, the stuff of Wagner & Tolkien, and the stuff of that Norse wannabe Hitler. Personally I think most of this Western Culture stuff comes from the "good breeding" crowd that thinks that Arians with a secret longing for the Laplanders is the ultimate in human DNA. That is fundamentalism! There of course of the intellectual wannabes who think they contributed an idea or two from Rome or Greece or Ionia. It was the superiour Arians who gleened the real intellectual gems from the rest of the schlock ideas. Oy -Vey! Alright, don't laugh. I have heard all this and more in all seriousness and confidence. The fundamentalism of Western Culture is a sense that it is at the current pinacle because of a fundamental and not transentory superiority in world cultures. As race based superiority meets PC resistance it turns to literature based superiority. The same may and probably is true of other compass directed fundamentalism, but this is what I am familiar with. Any idea that current Western Success has elements of luck or coincidence is met with the type of instant scorn usually reserved for when it pointed out that all living things share the same amount and success of evolution.
