QS, Charlie and JDN ... please consider these comments and thoughts as those of an old friend ... I have no reason to irritate any of you, and I remain concerned about you.

My possibly inaccurate assumptions on your SUNW positions and actions ... (1) for the most part, you still own as much SUNW stock now as you did when it was 55 or 60 and higher ... (2) some of you may have added to your positions at prices lower than 12 to dollar average down on the basis that SUNW would surely not stay at these low price levels as long as they have.

This may not happen at all, but assume for a minute that the following is about to happen ... (1) between now and the end of the year 2002, most tech stocks including SUNW will not recover much, and will probably even decline significantly ... (2) between now and June (in two months), equity prices (including techs) will increase moderately from present prices, but will probably drop off (maybe sharply) in the very short term (next few weeks).

The reason I voice this possibility is ... (1) there is a strong probability of a double dip recession ... (2) I expect the U.S. dollar to weaken as 2002 progresses ... (3) high levels of corporate and personal debt are likely to slow any recovery ... (3) tech stocks will lag other equities ... and (4) there is a likely slump in housing prices on the horizon.

Summarizing that scenario, for SUNW I am saying that perhaps come November, 2002, the three of you might have large positions that you have held for years (and maybe even have added to at low recent prices) which MIGHT then be worth (I don't know) say $5.75.

Now I know from reading here that the three of you are really bummed by all this (as I would be in your situation).

My question to you - Is your confidence in your own judgment and in SUNW management strong enough to resist to giving in and selling at probably exactly the same time the stock price bottoms?

I would hate to be buying your shares in December that you managed to hold until just when the price really bottomed.

Just my thoughts - best wishes to all of you.

Ken Wilson

Addendum to my previous post about today's NYT article:

In fairness, it's kind of "arbitrary and capricious" that the Times chose Zander's picture to front that article. If you look at the actual numbers in the text, Larry Ellison's take of almost $1B made Zander's action look like a church bingo game.

It's probably just because Zander is the best-looking guy among the pumpsters. Pictures of Ellison are best left out of a family newspaper :-).
