"This is a very news-oriented market, even more than usually"

The whole bubble run was driven by news, and PR.

"We need to see some big technology companies meet earnings estimates or provide some pretty strong upside guidance."

What does "pretty strong upside guidance" mean to the Tech sector ? Did he look at the P/E of some of these companies that are supposed to lead the market ?

"There's absolutely no doubt the U.S. consumer is the engine of growth for this economy," said Lara Rhame, economist with Brown Brothers Harriman. " But there remains a real concern on the part of the Federal Reserve that the consumer doesn't have that much ammunition left."

We're going to be in big trouble if the consumer loses its ammunition, since this is a mostly consumer-driven economy.

Based on all the negative stories in the press posted here and on Zeev's thread, all the talk of sick looking charts (after almost 12 weeks of down), and so on .....

I'm starting to think that maybe the markets have almost bottomed.
