IMO, and I said it before, the big profits on the short side of "sell and hold" are gone. Stocks are so cheap now in absolute terms, that in many of them a $1-4 move can give you a 100% gain on the long side and 100% LOSS on the short side. This is no longer the good profits you could make on the short side 2 years ago by shorting a $100 or $200 stock and knowing that you would not lose your behind by the stock flying to $200 or $400.

However now IMO, there is a lot more risk on the short side. Maybe this isn't a "buy and hold" time for longs quite yet (it is getting closer though IMO) but it definitely is not "sell and hold" either by any means. Unless you enjoy possibly seeing 100%, 200% and 300% losses like the old days. And IMO, a lot of the current group of not-experienced shorts, do not fully understand what a 100-300% loss really is...
