It would be interesting to learn what the financial arrangements are between a Dell and AOL. AOL wants to be an icon on the screen of all new computers sold. It is willing to give away free time to try and get folks used to their service. I suspect that Dell does not pay AOL anything for offering the service.
As Joe pointed out, there is a lot of free time available, and I have heard from others how easy it is to get more free time from AOL. just call, complain, or mention switching. But, what is the cost to AOL of having one more subscriber, even a free one??? they have the system in place to handle huge volume and they handle it very well. And every subscriber, even free ones, are potential buyers of stuff thru AOL, which AOL gets a cut of. It would be interesting to know how many of the 33 or 34 million customers AOL has are actually paying a monthly billl. larry

I don't know. I think they would since every time I call to cancel they give me free months. I have been using AOL free now for almost two years off of 18 months of free service from two DELL purchases. With how tight margins are on PC and that I paid competitive prices, I don't think DELL could have gave AOL much. I think at the time I hd a choice of AOL or DELLnet.
