...I can't completely agree with their view (and maybe I misinterpreted it) that the genesis of the September 11th attacks was completely our own. That the attacks could have been prevented had we simply minded our own business....

Certainly the word 'completely' is not appropriate. But it doesn't matter what the cause was, what matters is future actions. If Bush or whomever wants to be safe from even the possibility of attack, there is no limit as to how many people and countries must be destroyed, and 90% of Americans must be effectively imprisoned as a safeguard as well. Even to the extent that actions may in theory be justified, lying is the only thing that governments are really competent at.
