<Ayatollah Rafsanjani told cheering crowds assembled for him in Tehran recently that the moment Iran had nuclear weapons, it would use them on Israel. They even cheered when he casually acknowledged that millions of Muslims would die in the reply. >

If that's true, then it's a declaration of war and it's time to nuke him first. Such crazed, insane and superstitious Mad Moslem Mullahs make the wacko Chosen People seem sensible.

Who says he said it? Maybe it's just a vicious rumour - people do make things up. But if he did say it, then there's a good chance he'll do what he says he'll do.

Axis of Evil sounds about right to me.

Maybe GeorgeW should announce an intended nuclear strike on Iran unless there is unconditional surrender. If they don't unconditionally surrender, start the Hiroshima- Nagasaki-Isfahan-Teheran process until they come to their senses and wave the white flag.

They could give a week's warning to everyone to leave town somewhere then do a demonstration so that Iranians could inspect the remains to see what might happen if they don't surrender as suggested.

But it would be better to first find out if they are serious about nuking Israel.

Re: Islamism. If we were going to see Islam resurgent, finally rebounding from the death grip and collapse of the Ottoman Empire, what would it look like?

I have been reading, here and there, accounts of Muslims who have moved from rural villages to cities, and rediscovered the importance of religion as a social structure. I have been reading that Muslims are far more religious and observant than Christians. Muslims are more conservative. More Muslims voted for Bush than for Gore. I see far more women wearing head scarves after 9/11 than before. Why? Is it because the events have made them self conscious?

And their birth rate is astonishing.

Are they looking backward, to past glories, or forward, to a new Islam?

It's starting to look like the latter, to me.

Maybe I feel this way because George Mason has a very high percentage of Muslim students. They're all studying computers and business.

They seem a lot more sophisticated than the people on Free Republic that advocate bulldozing the Church of the Nativity to teach the Palestinians a lesson.
