Before we drill in pristine wilderness, conservation works better. During the energy crisis, California cut consumption by 15% without anyone suffering one iota. Personally I cut 30-40% without a problem. This only goes to show how wrong and corrupt the Big Oil and Auto lobbies are by torpedoing the John Kerry-sponsored fuel efficiency bill last month. Not only is this necessary, it's smart national defence policy. Also, the long-term need to wean ourselves off oil dependency for good. ANWAR will not solve our problems and the recent government study confirmed a much worst effect on wildlife than expected. In other words the proponents have been lying about their "small foot-print". No way you can drill ANWAR and not wreck the place.

Don't worry much about Saddam's oil embargo. He's just fighting for his life and is pretty isolated. Kuwait and Arabia will not back him despite his rhetoric and Russia and Mexica can up production. Within a week Israel will pull out and the oil embargo will have never happened.

Supposedly, we imported oil from Saddam for "humanitarian" reasons. Remember, we were to blame for starving 500,000 Iraqi children by prohibiting Iraq from exporting oil...

So, after we allowed Iraq to export oil for "humanitarian" reasons, Saddam himself turns off the spigot to "protest" (ha, ha) our M.E. policy -- and it's o.k. with the political left for Saddam to starve his own country's children.

Shows how cynical and hypocritical both Saddam and the political left are.
