take the sharp pencils away from IBM

This reminds me of an incident in 1987 when my parents sold their house and found old books of mine in the attic, one of which was a first edition of "The Lengthening Shadow", a biography of Thomas Watson. My best friend had given it to me when his father died shortly after being appointed president of IBM Canada. Still bitter, he didn't want it back and we decided I should give it to another High School buddy who at the time was VP Western Canada. I took it to their Head Office in Toronto to send in their interoffice mail and when I asked the guard at the entrance door for a pen and piece of paper to write a quick note to him, it took him twenty minutes to find a pen. Even back then they knew it was easier to change the numbers on a computer than it was to fudge the books using lead or ink!

Regards

Bob
