What I said was, their public pronouncements against could not be taken as evidence for their private feelings. Still true. It seems clear (as debka pointed out months ago, btw) that Iran-Iraq-Saudi Arabia are joining forces to prevent it if they can.

Iraq is not a problem for the United States. It's a problem for Israel. The race against time is for Israel (and perhaps for other nations in the Middle East), but not for the US.

No, indeed, you have this exactly backwards. The Israelis consider Iran a far, far greater threat than Iraq, and stand first in line to get the Scuds in the event of an American invasion of Iraq. The race against time is for the US, which has definite interests in the region, just as much as more for any of the states in the region.
