"The Nation" requires its writers to be uninformed. It also requires its readers to be illiterate. They are a success at both. THere was a good column at Techcentralstation.com that tried to explain why environmentalists are actually extreme fundamentalists. The environmentalists get the big picture so wrong because they have no understanding of economics. You are correct, alternatives will become available when they make economic sense. Environmentalists rarely make sense, economic or not.
