I went for the DELL special package
"Brick Outhouse " promotional deal here:
dell.com

$2,299 shipped

* comes with the 512MB SDRAM upgrade , very important to get at least that much on any configuration you choose.

Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 processor at 1.7GHz-M
15" Ultra XGA Display
512MB SDRAM
8x DVD/CDRW Combination Drive
40GB1 Hard Drive
32MB DDR 4X AGP NVIDIA GeForce2 Go Graphics

any old Flat screen for second monitor will do , they're cheap, and I'm not that choosey . Have two other laptops with second monitors too , they will all fit nicely in a row, though I prop up the second monitors behind and above
in surround.

Some people like a turbo set-up with the monitors slightly angled down for ease on neck or in optical~surround:
ergotron.com

here's another example of monitor set-ip that's pretty
sweet:
trikinetic.com

Other really nice comparable PC's to the DELL are the Sony VAIO , a nice one w/512MB for $2,100 to $2,900:
sonystyle.com

or the similar Toshiba @ $3,600:
csd.toshiba.com@@@@0469343370.1018331280@@@@&BV_EngineID=hadcdkclddigbfekcghcfmfdglj.0&comm=CS&plin=Portable%20Computers&pfam=Tecra&poid=202192&Adoid=141687bin/tais/pc/pc_prodDetail.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1570506798.1015722990@@@@&BV_EngineID=hadcdhhfklikbfekcghcfmfdglj.0&comm=CS&plin=Portable%20Computers&pfam=Tecra&poid=207903&Adoid=164640

Or the somewhat comparable Thinkpad for $3,800 , w/512MB:
d02xms020.southbury.ibm.com

So in the end ----> DELL got my dough ,
though the VAIO was tempting ...

(and I don't ever pay them on "time plan" cause they'll
rape you on interest)
