Israel is trying to make the region a more peaceful place to live & raise a family. Why would they deliberately upset the economy of their own country? Tourism to the area is dead, therefore resorts & restaurants that usually cater to them are in deep do-do because of the hostility. It's in the financial interest of Israel to stabilize the region ASAP. What incentive does Arafat have to attain a peace agreement?.....NONE. His future acclaim depends on continued warfare.....hence, he's not interested in a compromise which would ultimately lead to his "less than attractive" face disappearing from the the front page of every newspaper in the world.
