CobaltBlue,

Re: don't let the bastards grind you down.

I sometimes prefer this cliche in the Latin - illegitimus non carborundum..... <g>

Which is exactly what Anthony Trollope had in mind for the "free market" snake oil salesmen of this and another era:

"The Way We Live Now"

pbs.org

is perhaps Anthony Trollope's darkest and best look at human nature. Written when Trollope was 60, it is a curmudeonly view of the nature of greed, hypocrisy and deception among the gilded gentry of the Victorian age. It's a timeless satire of human follies. And I'm sure not at all what you had in mind to cheer up our dear Flyer. Who seems to have some of the silver-tongued rhetoric of Augustus Melmotte down pat.

Re: It is impossible, literally impossible, for bad ideas to win, long term, in the free market.

As Trollope understood so well, the game is to pull the wool over the eyes of the other punters only long enough to take their chips off the table. This nonsense about "long term" is just so much happy talk.

Cheerio!

<<don't let the bastards grind you down.>>

This seems to be a bit strong words, given that we have always (or most of the times) discussed issues here with respect for the participants.

I believe you have written this message in a flash and that you do not consider us bastards, really?

Cheers

Elmat
