Written when Trollope was 60, it is a curmudeonly view of the nature of greed, hypocrisy and deception among the gilded gentry of the Victorian age. It's a timeless satire of human follies. And I'm sure not at all what you had in mind to cheer up our dear Flyer. As Trollope understood so well, the game is to pull the wool over the eyes of the other punters only long enough to take their chips off the table.
