I still think if anyone believes American media coverage is biased, they should listen to RFI (Radio France International), it's just one long litany of unverifiable "eyewitness reporting" and biased smearing of Israel doubled with bleating about how impotent Europe is in being unable to put pressure on Sharon.

I mean, there was never this kind of outrage on that station when suicide bombers wreaked havoc during Passover. I never once heard them having commentators on discussing how Europe might put pressure on the PLO to cease terrorist activity.

No doubt in this case it's for the benefit of RFI's francophone audience in the Arab world, but the situation is not all that much better on the French national radio and television stations.

One might have thought that modern communications technology would lead to much more accurate real-time reporting, but I somehow suspect that available bandwidth doesn't even make a dent in the problem. It's nearly impossible to sort out all the spin one way and another, and most people simply don't have the time.

>>But when Israel would pressure Arafat to reign in militants, you may recall, pundits fretted that this would backfire by making Palestinians less sympathetic to Arafat and more sympathetic to more radical Palestinian groups.<<

Boy, I sure don't remember this particular incident. Admittedly, the pundits I come across are mostly in the main stream media, so maybe there are pundits somewhere who said this, but I can't recall any.
