Well, don't take it at face value though... For, as the old saying goes, "where there's a will, there's way". The apparent European diffidence as regards the Mideast crisis masks a genuine political will, actually. Remember, on the eve of the Beirut summit, when the US was pressuring Israel to let Arafat attend it, NOT A SINGLE EU country piped up to let Arafat go --why? Because, at the time, the breakthrough was a US/Saudi/Egypt initiative wherein the Europeans had had no say at all.... hence they didn't want to help advancing it. Then there's Europe's demographic mix: as more and more immigrants fill the innercities of European megapoles, EU policymakers --excusively white and Christian/non-Muslim-- are well aware of the disastrous consequences for the social fabric an overtly pro-Israel/Zionist position would bring about... European politicos are just too happy/relieved to watch their Muslim underdogs demonstrating in front of the US embassy and burning US and Israeli flags --after all, what would be the alternative? Tell me, Charlie, what will happen the day our brainwashed immigrants from the ghettoes realize that "their" political elites covertly stand by Israel? Talk about the sh** hitting the fan... LOL! As for a EU embargo against Israeli exports, just forget about it: Germany (the largest market) won't endorse it... an "anti-Semitic/Nazi" smear campaign by the Zionist gang is the last thing Schroeder needs to win the Sept election --his rival Stoiber is toast anyway (Kirch fiasco). And the French won't do it either: they're already in the midst of an anti-Semitism racket... Chirac knows that the Jews will do everything to "kill" him and Jospin can't turn against his Jewish constituency (650,000 souls). Gus
