re:"This article points out one of the 20th century's worst industrial errors and that was IBM hiring MSFT to write the first PC operating system and then letting them walk off with the rights in data, source and object code and every other piece of intellectual property surrounding that effort. "

A few questions:

Wasn't DOS just a copy of CPM or some other existing operating system-with very minor changes? Does anyone know whether or not, the PC was made an open system in part because of the DOJ (consent decree?)?

I seem to remember, that when the PC came out, IBM was one of Intel's largest stockholders.
