ESST is stock i follow closely. It is getting a severe sell-off today. i have been disappointed by it in the past because of heavy selling from Chan family, and now i see this. <<2002-04-01 BLAIR, ROBERT L.
Chief Executive Officer 120,000 Planned Sale
(Estimated proceeds of $2,551,200)>> there is your sell-off today,i suspect.Max

Dave, do you REALLY believe those earnings growth estimates.

PEGs have been a scam for years since earnings growth has actually been negative.

Even if that company is growing, all it takes is one bad quarter, inventory writeoffs, goodwill writeoff, or any number of things to kill the inflated earnings estimates and PEG.

This does not mean it is not a relative value here. I will take a look cause you keep mentioning it, but I do not believe ANY PEG estimate.

ESS Technology, Inc. designs, markets and supports highly integrated mixed signal semiconductor, hardware, software and system solutions for multimedia applications in the Internet, personal computer and consumer marketplaces. For the fiscal year ended 12/31/01, net revenues fell 11% to $271.4 million. Net income from continuing operations fell 83% to $11 million. Results reflect continued weakness in the PC market and reduced gains on the sale of investments.

PE is 88 and it appears some (how much? all perhaps) of those "earnings" have been on sale of investments. This we know since they have "reduced gains" on sale of investments.

Are they making ANYTHING on core operations?
19% short.
Bears are usually correct when this short.
Looks like that last top on ESST near 25 was a good short and hold point.

core business segment is horrible segment.
