Tim, a good article: Among the Bourgeoisophobes
weeklystandard.com.

Of course, I doubt that liberals and Europeans will enjoy reading it, namely Ted and Andreas. ;-) They probably don't want to be pigeonholed into a group that hates success, and I don't blame them. But it's an interesting read nonetheless.

Oh horsesh*t........I read nearly a page and came close to vomiting. What smugness...he talks as if all our warts had disappeared over night. This article's focus is so narrow, its scary. Its message leaves little to the imagination......either you love us or you hate us....that black or white thing again. If the author thinks this country or Israel has all the answers, then he doesn't have very high standards. And apparently, he must have been the recipient of some unpleasant comment from a European......its hard to imagine the average German or Swiss or Norwegian "burning with humiliation" because they don't have our vitality.......anyone who has been to those countries would know that they are doing very well, thank you!!

And to think that the only reason other countries hate us is because they are jealous. That's so easy; the easiest of cop outs. It reminds me of the hottie who snubs the sh*t out of everyone and can't understand why no one likes her..........they must be jealous of her beauty....there can be no other reason.

This is a great nation but we have the ability to step all over the wishes of others, to consume beyond our share as if there's no tomorrow, to do what we damn please whenever its in our best interests, to favor the worst kind of autocratic gov't because it suits our needs and/or purposes. Some of the worst aspects of are our culture, the most shallow aspects are exported to the rest of the world on a daily basis.

Visitors from some of those lands that are less vital are warned to be careful and not to stay out after dark in our cities for fear of molestation. We are so vital we rob the sh*t out of anyone who dares not to heed that advice. And don't forget we let our public transportation go the way of the car, and now most of our freeways are down to a crawl. Oh and our cities are sprawling so fast its predicted we will have used up the best of our arable soil in 150 years.

The author never considered that the artists and intellectuals may truly have been annoyed with the vulgarities of the bourgeoisie. In fact the French terms, bourgeoisie and nouveau riche, connote in our language a kind of rough around the edges boor. May be the author is incapable of understanding that material success is not the driver for some people that apparently it is for him. But frankly, whatever his limitations I am not buying his argument.

And before you tell me.......America, love or leave it; let me just say that I love it but not unconditionally. I consider it a great work in progress.......with a ways to go.
