A couple of days ago, Tench posted the following link to the New York Times:

nytimes.com

It included this quote:

"What's more, Hamas believes that the Palestinian Authority has given up on negotiating with Israel, negotiations that Hamas virulently opposed. That has led to a budding alliance between Hamas and Fatah, the organization headed by Yasir Arafat, the Palestinian leader, despite years of bitter and sometimes violent feuding."

Z, thanks. In a subsequent post, Tim provided the link and I saw the article.

>Secondly, you think its a disagreement? Bush told Israeli to pull back. Sharon flipped him the bird.......nicely. I think that's a little more than a disagreement.

He didn't flip him the bird. Shimon Peres, an extreme dove, said that the Bush administration gave Israel a few days to pull out.

I disagree with S. Peres's interpretation......and many in the news media agree. In fact, Powell is taking some sh*t right now for taking so long to get to Israel. Powell's butt is on the line and he wants Sharon to comply with Bush's demand. Note I said demand....Peres and Dore Gold are saying request. I might add, Sharon flipped Bush the bird nicely. His attitude and that of other Israelis is that they know best........but IMO, they only know what's best for Israel, not for the world.

Today, of course, things changed- a suicide bomber ambushed a number of Israeli soldiers and killed 13 of them... Israel may not pull out so quickly after all. Sounds good to me, as I don't think they should pull out until the operation is over.

IMO,I don't think they can change the time table too much without threatening relations with their closest ally.
