Fine. Have it your way. From 250,000 to 8 million in 122 years is only a growth rate of 2.9%.

A random search of the internet quickly finds references to regions with human population growth rates of "more than 6%":

A 6% growth rate for 122 years would take a population of 250,000 out to 300 million.
