I didn't know the old coal mine farms were that big.

A common coal mining method is called room and pillar. The miners would take coal out leaving pillars of coal to support the mine roof. The mining map would look like a big room with pillars in it. The pillars contained a lot of coal. Eventually they would exhaust the coal seam. After that, they would pull the coal pillars. They would work from the back of the mine to the entrance. At some point, in the process the roof normally starts collapsing behind them. Even if it doesn't collapse, it not an area you want to visit. <G>
