I'm not sure where you get your usage of the word "Semitic". The Jews who were in the Middle East for the centuries prior to the 19th, are considered Sephardic because many of them fled there from Spain during the Inquisition... of course, perhaps what you refer to as "Semitic" Jews are the ones whose ancestors never left the Middle East during any of the expulsions from Palestine, however, they're classified as Sephardic Jews. -Z The Sephardic Jews were mostly from Western Europe and the Ashkenazi Jews were mostly from Eastern Europe and spoke Yiddish.........all of this info is drawn directly from Websters.
