With regard to Sri Lanka. I was there just before things blew up and predicted what was going to happen. Since the blow up in the mid 70s the conflict has been coloured by marxists, Tamil Nadu, islamists, singalese supremacists.

I've also drawn the parallel between that situation and palestinian problem. You can't keep an underclass indefinitely in the modern world.

You also can't get away, anymore, with doing away with a real, modern democracy. There are excellent reasons the super power can't let this happen regardless of the number of Jews resident there.

The Irish parallel doesn't fit. Despite all the BS; it was a colony and exploited for the English nobility.

This is not a pissing match between two leaders (like the Iran
Iraq war, or maybe even Hitler in WW2), this is a fight between two peoples over one territory. That's why it's so vicious.
There simply is not room in Palestine / Israel for two different governments, each presumably based on two different ineffective
religions.

You are not describing the situation as it is, currently. It is not a struggle between governments or leaders anymore than WW2 was. It is a fight to the death between the modern world and a vicious, backward fantasy, just as WW2 was.

In fact, there is room for everybody there, under one government or two. If it were only a struggle between two peoples over the same territory, something could have been worked out a long time ago. It's happened lots of places.
