the spanish had to deal with a bloody civil war trying to throw the fascist out. it was not a peaceful period.
as far as the Arabs living in Palestine they were and are already made extreme by their leaders since '48. Believe me, this little incident over the past two weeks will not have a long term positive or negative effect, the situation was already as bad as it could get, the Israeli's can't make it any worse.

That's my perspective, those of the US right and many Americans in the middle and the overwhelming majority of the Israeli's.

As long as the Arabs living in Palestine have as rulers those who refuse to teach anything other than hate, the hate will continue. Once again, this thread is full of people who condemn Israel's actions, but I haven't seen one intelligent alternative which would provide for progress on the issues seperating the Palestinians from a 'state' to the incursion being proposed by any of you people who so strongly believe that Israel is acting incorrectly.

BTW, fascism has a bad name because of Hitler, but Spain had a fascist government for over 50 years.

Facism has a bad name because it's a collection of bad ideas. Spain under Franco was a police state and you kept your head down and your mouth shut or you did time.

It was a time of great celebration when the Iberian dictators died. The only folk who were unhappy were those who had undeserved privileges under the regimes.
